GLOBE Alumni North America
July 2007 Newsletter

Greetings GLOBE Alumni!!

First, a welcome to all of the new alumni and good luck with your careers, whether collegiate or professional! As we approach the commencement of the GLOBE Program's 11th Annual Conference down in the Lone Star State the Alumni representatives from around the globe have been diligent in preparation for a busy, yet fulfilling week together. We will be working to complete an evaluation of the GLOBE Alumni in addition to formulating a number of new project ideas that we can tackle on an international and regional level! A more detailed newsletter from the entire alumni will result from this event and we can't wait to begin working with all of you so stay tuned!

Redesigned GLOBE (Alumni) Website!

Late last month the new GLOBE website kicked off and it is in full swing and is much more user-friendly with more useful functionality then ever before! In addition, they have updated the Alumni page on the site as well and it is looking nothing less than stellar! Check it out!

Current Projects:

As many of you are new members of the Alumni and this is your first newsletter well try to summarize the recent projects that North America Alumni have undertaken in the past:

  • James Madison University Odyssey Day Assistance (Fall '06) - Spreading Air quality, renewable energy, and sustainable design awareness and education!
  • Participants in Train-the-Trainer GLOBE workshops (Fall '06, Spring '07)
  • Assistance in teacher training workshops for GLOBE (Summer '06, Fall '06, Summer '07)
  • Earth Day 2007: International Polar Year (IPY) Awareness
  • Assisted in Poster: "Utilizing GLOBE as an Inquiry-Based Teaching Strategy in the Shenandoah Valley" (2007)
  • Various other events and projects involving the GLOBE Program

Future Projects:

We'll know more following the Annual Conference, but we have a number of projects and events we'd like to work on in the coming months from training workshops, to pen pal programs, to IPY outreach, to the development of a GLOBE Alumni global event! Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions, ideas, comments, or just to stay in touch! Thanks, keep up the great work, and enjoy the rest of the summer.

Salude!
