Fire Research Program

The Fire Research Branch in the Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research plans, develops, and manages the safety- and risk-related Fire Research Program for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Through this state-of-the-art program, the staff supports other NRC offices by developing and validating fire analysis methodologies and supporting data. The staff then uses the results of its research activities as the basis for recommending improvements in NRC programs and/or processes to risk-inform regulations and achieve the desired outcomes of enhanced safety, efficiency, and effectiveness. For detail, see the following pages:

In addition, the following information sheets provide detailed descriptions of the types of activities that the staff performs to establish a solid foundation for the agency’s Fire Research Program.
