On December 31, 2008, MSHA published a final rule that implements the recommendations of the Technical Study Panel (Panel) on the Utilization of Belt Air and the Composition and Fire Retardant Properties of Belt Material in Underground Coal Mining. One part of this rule
requires training of Atmospheric Monitoring System (AMS) operators and make monitoring the AMS a primary responsibility. A training guide and template are now available.

J. H. Fletcher requests that owners of the DR and CDR roof drills listed in the bulletin immediately remind all personnel of the danger of pinch points on the machine. Specifically, the pinch point between the inner and outer masts that move during the drilling and bolting process. The company is also providing a free mast guard arrangement for this area.
