Tanzania GLOBE Training Workshop, June 1997

28 May 1998

In June 1997, the United States Peace Corps in Tanzania partnered with the GLOBE Program to conduct a training workshop at Sokoine University. The workshop was attended by Ministry of Education officials, Peace Corps volunteers and staff, Tanzanian teachers, and representatives from the United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR).

Sokoine University, a college of agriculture in Tanzania, was an excellent site for the GLOBE training. There was an open field and a stream nearby for participants to make atmosphere and hydrology measurements. Mr. Hambari Kuonga, the GLOBE Country Coordinator from Tanzania, and others from the Ministry took part in the on-site data collection.

UNHCR officials attending the Tanzania workshop will be implementing GLOBE activities in schools and children's activity centers located in refugee camps throughout the country.
