In Beaver Dam, Kentucky, GLOBE teachers and students are working hard to teach others in the community about their activities. Teachers from the Beaver Dam Elementary School produced a 10-minute video showing children at work doing GLOBE experiments. In the spring of 1998, they will be making presentations at a community-wide "Celebrate the Child" event and at the school's May carnival.

"The video shows how the children really are little scientists," says GLOBE third-grade teacher Teresa Byers. "We show how children can become real scientists."

Sixth graders also have begun to participate in GLOBE, and there are plans to expand the GLOBE curriculum further. Already, kindergartners and first-graders get their first taste of GLOBE's science experiments as "little science buddies." These little buddies assist third and fourth graders in certain GLOBE activities, getting them used to scientific concepts and activities.

"I always tell them: the world is made up of all these small places and that it's important to study our little part," Teresa says.
