A Search and Rescue (SAR) buoy was dropped in the heaviest part of the oil slick at 1130
on March 17, 1992.  On overflights over the next two days, the buoy could still be tracked
by way of its distinct radio frequency.  The buoy remained relatively close to the oil
slick for 72 hours.
