THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS BASED ON THE MOST CURRENT DATA PROVIDED TO NOAA. - SITUATION UPDATE At the present time (1400 EST 02 DEC, Thursday), most of the floating oil is located in the Southern Branch of the Elizabeth River, between the entrance of the Eastern Branch and the Railroad Bridge. Cleanup personnel from IMS are attempting to use deflection boom to capture the oil in this area. The focus of the response resources will continue to be in the Southern and Western Branches of the Elizabeth River. An overflight is scheduled for later today to determine the potential threat to the Western Branch. Craney Island Creek, a location which is identified in the Area Contingency Plan as a high-priority site, was boomed off by 1000 this morning. The M/V SAUDI DURYIK remains at the Lamberts Point Dock. An inspection team from MSO Hampton Roads determined that the oil was lost from a Settling Tank (between the Day Tank and Main Tank), which had a capacity of 42,000 gallons. They have estimated that 4,000 gallons of #6 oil were lost from this tank. FUTURE PLANS An overflight is scheduled for today prior to sunset. Shoreline oiling will be evaluated and shoreline cleanup operations will be initiated tomorrow morning. NOAA PERSONNEL ON-SCENE LTJG Steve Meador (Assistant SSC for New York area) will arrive on-scene later today. NOAA SSC Gary Ott is on-scene at MSO Hampton Roads.
