The GLOBE Program was pleased to conduct a GLOBE Training Workshop at the United States Agency for International Development (AID) office in Nairobi, Kenya, June 23-25, 1997. Representatives from the Ministry of Education in Kenya, the Ministry of Education Madagascar, the United Nations Commission on Refugees (UNHCR), the United States Peace Corps, and the Computer Society of Kenya became certified GLOBE Trainers.

Finding outside study sites suitable to practice the GLOBE protocols was difficult given the location of workshop in downtown Nairobi. Instead, GLOBE study sites were created with materials participants brought from home! GLOBE Trainer Andrea Reigler, pictured here, demonstrated soil characterization and possible soil horizons that might be found naturally in Kenya.
