Past Support Judgments and Interest

When the Division of Child Support Enforcement establishes a new child support order there are times when the court may decide that support is owed for a time period before the court date. This is considered past child support. When the court decides that a debt is due for past child support, a judgment is added with the court ordered amount for child support. This is a past child support judgment.

Recently Arizona passed new legislation that affects past support judgments. Before September 26, 2008, interest was added to all past support judgments. After September 26, 2008, all new past support judgments for child support will not include any interest.
