This video contest is part of a Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) initiative to encourage cross-cultural community building and mutual understanding via the web and social media platforms. Videos will be judged on originality, creativity, effectiveness, and production quality. Four winners will receive the grand prize: an all-expense-paid, two week cultural exchange program to the United States (for non U.S. winners) or from the United States to a country to be determined (for the U.S. winners).

The Volvo Adventure - in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme- rewards environmental activities and the decision-makers of the future. To enter, you form a team of 2 to 5 members aged 13 to 16 years and perform an environmental project in your local community.
Projects are judged during February / March and the best projects are selected for an all expenses paid trip to Göteborg, Sweden where they can win: 1st place = 10,000 USD, 2nd = 6,000 USD and 3rd = 4,000 USD.

Grant name: Toyota Tapestry Grants

Toyota is offering a total of $550,000 in grants to 75–80 K–12 teachers of science. Fifty large grants (up to $10,000 for each) will be awarded in addition to 25–30 mini grants (up to $2,500.) All awardees will receive a $500 stipend to use for travel expenses or registration to attend the NSTA National Conference in New Orleans.

Grant name: Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge

The Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge is a K-12 sustainability challenge where students form teams of 2 or 3, work with a teacher/mentor to identify an environmental issue in their community, research it, develop a plan, collect data, analyze that data, and share the results they've found so far. Teams may be made up of two or three students, each of whom is a legal U.S. resident enrolled in a public, private, parochial or home school located in the United States at the time of entry, under the supervision of a teacher, mentor or other adult.

Eligibility: Grade 9 - 12 students in public, private, parochial, Native American reservation, or home school in the United States, U.S. territories or Department of Defense Schools. Deadline: 6 April 2009

The 2009 Thacher Scholars Awards will be given to secondary schools students demonstrating the best use of geospatial technologies or data to study Earth. Eligible geospatial tools and data include satellite remote sensing, aerial photography, geographic information systems (GIS), and Global Positioning System (GPS). The main focus of the project must be on the application of the geospatial tool(s) or data to study a problem related to Earth's environment. Cash awards totaling: $3,500.

Funded by American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronauts (AIAA) Foundation, these grants are available to supplement the math, science or technology curriculum for K-12 teachers nationwide. At Waste Management, we strive to be a trusted and valued community partner and to positively impact our communities through resourceful and green business practices. The types of programs that Waste Management is most likely to support include:
  1. Environment: Waste Management supports organizations and programs that preserve and/or enhance natural resources. Examples include helping provide renewal resources to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, and conserving and maintaining wetlands, wildlife habitats and green spaces for people's enjoyment.
  2. Environmental Education: Waste Management supports environmental education programs targeted at middle and high school students. This includes environmental and science related projects, science fairs, Earth Day projects and others.
  3. Community: Local Waste Management facilities are proactive in identifying charities located in the immediate community that they serve and in many cases may have predetermined which organizations they will be supporting that year.

Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation, International Paper and National Geographic Explorer! classroom magazine have partnered to create an outdoor classroom grant program to provide schools with additional resources to improve their science curriculum by engaging students in hands-on experiences outside the traditional classroom. Maximum Award: $20,000 (to districts or schools with major outdoor classroom projects); $2000 to individual schools.

The Intel Model School Program provides equipment for a school or district to enhance their technology by using advanced technology. The Intel Model School Program identifies schools that desire equipment or have a unique project to complete by using Intel products, and can show the improvement in the quality of the education experience for both the teacher and the student by using high-end technology.
