EndNote Web is a web-based reference management tool for saving, organizing, storing, and formatting citations for research projects. Available from Thomson via the NIH Library, it includes the Cite While You Write™ feature popular with EndNote users.

With EndNote Web, article citations may be saved from home, when away from the office, or any time desktop-based programs such as EndNote or Reference Manager® cannot be accessed.

Setting Up an Account
EndNote Web requires Microsoft® Internet Explorer 6.0-7.0, Firefox™ 1.5-2.0, or Safari™ 1.3-2.0. To set up an account and begin using EndNote Web:

• Select Web of Science® under Quick Links on the NIH Library website.
• Under "My EndNote Web" on the right side of the webpage, click on "Sign in to access EndNote Web."
• Register to create an EndNote Web account.
• Once registered, connect to EndNote Web from within Web of Science or any computer with Internet access (go to http://www.myendnoteweb.com/).

How EndNote Web Works

• One library is assigned per EndNote Web account.
• Multiple folders may be created to group and organize up to 10,000 citations.
• Citations in folders may be sorted by author, year, folder, or title.
• Keywords are added automatically to a citation if they appear in the database record.
• Citations can be edited to include additional keywords or notes.
• A link to the original database record--from PubMed® or Web of Science, for example--appears in the citation.
• Folders within an EndNote Web library may be shared by submitting the email address for individuals granted access permission.
  

Special Features of EndNote Web

• Ability to format and print or save bibliographies from folders in over 2,300 styles in three file formats (HTML, text, or Rich Text Format).
• The Cite While You Write function in Microsoft Word®.
• Import filters, output styles, a "Find Duplicates" feature, and the ability to export a traveling library (references used in a paper). 
• The "Online Search" function for connecting to and searching databases such as PubMed and Web of Science (note that this function works only when searching from on campus or via a VPN or Parachute account).
• Searching within EndNote Web folders and fields.
