The
DASIS Report:
Quick Statistics
Highlights
- SAMHSA's
Office of Applied Studies (OAS) has created a website where you
can find the latest available State and jurisdiction level data on substance
abuse treatment admissions and substance abuse treatment facilities.
The States submitted these data to SAMHSA for the Treatment Episode
Data Set (TEDS) and the National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment
Services (N-SSATS).
- States
differ in the time in which they submit their data to SAMHSA. This site
provides access to as yet unpublished data for individual States for
the most recently completed calendar year submitted by each specific
State.
- Currently
(3/10/05), many States have submitted TEDS data on treatment admissions
and discharges for 2003 and a few States have submitted TEDS data
for 2004. TEDS data can only be compiled and published for the entire
U.S. when all States have reported to SAMHSA; therefore, the results
for the entire country are not yet available for the calendar years
of 2003 or 2004.
- N-SSATS
is an annual survey of all known public and private substance abuse
treatment facilities in the U.S. and the territories of Puerto Rico,
Virgin Islands, Guam, Palau, and the Federated States of Micronesia.
Those facilities that respond provide information on their location,
characteristics, treatment services offered, and utilization of
services as well as the number of clients in treatment on the last
business day in March. SAMHSA's Quick Statistics currently provides
data from the 2002 and 2003 surveys.
- Using
Quick Statistics, you can run tables for individual States and for all
States combined. This report provides guidance for accessing and analyzing
the data. SAMHSA's Quick Statistics for substance abuse treatment admissions
and facilities data may be accessed at http://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/NewMapv1.htm
- Additional
analysis of TEDS and N-SSATS data are available through SAMHSA's online
analysis of public use files. For example, SAMHSA's Substance Abuse
and Mental Health Data Archive (SAMHDA) has a component in its online
analysis capabilities called Quick
Tables. Persons wanting to do their own
data analysis might find the following helpful:
This short
report, The DASIS Report:
Quick Statistics, is based on the Drug and
Alcohol Services Information System (DASIS), the primary source of
national data on substance abuse treatment. DASIS is conducted by
the Office of Applied Studies (OAS) in the Substance
Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
