Suicide Risk and Prevention for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Youth
Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC) has released Suicide risk and prevention for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth. Written by SPRC staff and reviewed by experts in sexual and gender minority issues, suicide, and suicide prevention, and by youth, this publication addresses the special concerns related to suicide prevention among lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) youth. This paper paper outlines recommendations for helping to reduce suicidal behavior among LGBT youth, and includes a resource appendix and an extensive bibliography. New SAMHSA White Paper Examines the Relationship between Suicide and Substance Abuse
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has released a new white paper focusing on the current state of knowledge about the relationship between substance abuse and suicide. Titled Substance abuse and suicide prevention: Evidence & implications, the document discusses substance abuse as a risk factor for suicide and suicide attempts, and stresses the importance of applying this knowledge to help prevent suicidal behavior. Relationship between the Economy, Unemployment and Suicide
Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC) announces a new document providing talking points on the relationship between the economy, unemployment and suicide. After reviewing research on the subject from around the world, SPRC developed talking points to help suicide prevention leaders communicate clearly and accurately about this most pressing issue. The talking points summarize what is known about these complex relationships and offers suggestions for framing this issue with news media.
