Savings Bond Wizard - Updating the Database

You should update your Savings Bond Wizard® program when the savings bond rates are announced every May and November to keep up with current values. The update will contain all available redemption values from January 1996 through the new rate period.

How to Update the Wizard

The easiest way to update the Wizard is to use the Automatic Update. If you have problems, you can update the application using the Manual Update instructions below.

Automatic Update:

  1. Open the Wizard.
  2. Select "Tools" from the menu bar.
  3. Select "Redemption Values..."
  4. Select "Automatic Update."
  5. When the box says "Update Complete", select "Close".

Manual Update:

To manually update your Wizard, you will need to download the new values file, then open Wizard and run the manual update.

If you have Internet access from your PC, you can download the new values to your Desktop. If not, you can use another PC (a friend's, at the library, etc) to download the new values file to a diskette.

Download to Desktop

  1. Select the link below.

  2. Select "Save."
  3. From the "Save in:" drop-down box, select "Desktop".
  4. Select "Save."

Download to Diskette

  1. Insert a formatted diskette into the computer with Internet access.
  2. Select the link below.

  3. Select "Save."
  4. From the "Save in:" drop-down box, select "3 1/2 floppy [A:]."
  5. Select "Save."
  6. Once the download is complete, remove the diskette, and take it to your computer.

Run Manual Update

  1. Open the Wizard.
  2. Select “Tools” from the menu bar.
  3. Select “Redemption Values…”
  4. Select “Manual Update.”
  5. If you downloaded to diskette, insert the diskette into your computer now.
  6. Select “Browse.”
  7. From the “Look in:” drop-down box, select the same folder to which you downloaded the values file.
    (EITHER Desktop OR 3 1/2 floppy (A:))
  8. Select the “sbwcrv” file.
  9. Select “Open.”
  10. Select “Update.”
  11. When the box says "Update Complete", select "Close."
