  • GLOBE Europe Meeting in Hungary 5 Sept 2007
    The 2007 GLOBE Europe Regional Meeting, held in Budapest, Hungary, was attended by representatives from 17 European countries. Participants were greeted and welcomed by the Honorable April Foley, U.S. Ambassador to Hungary, Mr. Károly Dán, Department Head of Hungarian Ministry of Education, Ms. Lori Dando, Regional Hub Officer from the Regional Environmental Office at the U.S. Embassy in Copenhagen, Mr. Samuel Kotis, Regional Hub Officer from the Regional Environmental Office at the U.S. Embassy in Budapest, Mr. Karl Hetland, GLOBE Europe Regional Consortium Chairperson and GLOBE International Advisory Committee Representative as well as GLOBE Norway Country Coordinator, and Mr. Gary Randolph, GLOBE Program Office Regional Consortia Coordinator and Carbon Cycle Project Leader.
  • Israel Holds Video Conference Event to Celebrate Earth Day 2007 23 Apr 2007
    Special thanks are extended to Mr. Farid Hamdan, GLOBE Country Coordinator from the Ministry of Education in Tel Aviv, Mr. Israel Weisenstern, Supervisor of Environmental Studies, and Ms. Miriam Sadeh, Regional GLOBE Director from the Negev Schools in southern Israel, for initiating this important event. In addition, GLOBE wishes to extend our gratitude to the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv, as well as the U.S. Department of State in Washington D.C., for making the event possible.
  • International Student Exchange Project Examines Implementation of GLOBE Protocol 25 Jan 2007
    The seed of an idea to initiate a transcontinental student exchange project to examine the role of GLOBE across a wide spectrum of schools in Europe and Africa was planted at the GLOBE Annual Conference in Prague in 2005. The aim was to provide opportunities for university students having longstanding experience with GLOBE to share their expertise with students in other countries and to learn about the issues and resources in the countries visited.
  • United States Ambassador to Denmark Visits GLOBE School 31 Aug 2006
    On 9 February 2006, U.S. Ambassador to Denmark, James P. Cain, visited GLOBE School Odense Katedralskole in the city of Odense, on the island of Funen.
  • Norwegian GLOBE School Passes its 100,000th Measurement Mark! 13 Jun 2006
    In the seven years since the Vang barne-og ungdomsskule (K-10) in Valdres, Norway, started the GLOBE Program, they have amassed over 100,000 measurement points. On 30 May the school celebrated the momentous occasion with big party, during which seven students together pushed the button to enter the 100,000th measurement. The U.S. Embassy Representative David A. Henry was on-hand to support the schools work with GLOBE.
  • GLOBE Europe Holds Annual Meeting in Paris 22 Mar 2006
    The GLOBE Europe Regional Consortium's annual meeting took place in Paris, France, hosted by GLOBE France at CNES on January 16 and 17, 2006, where future activities of the GLOBE Europe Consortium were discussed. The U.S. Embassy and Environmental Hub in Copenhagen was instrumental in the meetings and participated in discussions about GLOBE Europe plans and projects, as well as budget and fundraising plans.
  • The GLOBE Alumni International Network 26 Aug 2005
    Dana Votapkova, Country Coordinator for GLOBE Czech Republic, made the statement at the 2005 GLOBE Annual Conference in Prague that the GLOBE Program not only captures the minds of students, but also their hearts. The U.S. Embassy in Tallinn, Estonia, is financing this 18-month project in which Estonian GLOBE Alumni are organizing events filled with exciting and fun science and nature activities from GLOBE for children of non-GLOBE schools in Estonia.
  • 1st GLOBE Young Scientists Fair in Bahrain 3 Jun 2005
    On May 9, 2005, the First GLOBE Young Scientist Fair was held at Shaikh Khalifa Institute of Technology under the patronage of his Excellency the Minister of Education, Dr. Majid Al Nuaimi, and the United States Ambassador to Bahrain, William Monroe. Students exposed to GLOBE materials and the scientific method creatively developed environmental science projects on a variety of locally-relevant topics such as water quality, recycling, and alternative fuel sources.
  • GLOBE Teacher Training Workshop - Sinegorye, Kazakhstan 21 Sept 2004
    GLOBE Kazakhstan, the U.S. Peace Corps, ExxonMobil, and the U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan were pleased to host a GLOBE teacher training workshop in the Almatinskii National Park outside of Almaty, Kazakhstan. The workshop was held from July 18 -22, and differed from many workshop formats in that the organizing committee was successful in raising funds to fully support the costs of the workshop including travel, room and board, and an intermediate GLOBE kit for all teachers.
  • France Joins GLOBE! 13 Oct 2004
    France became the 107th country to join GLOBE in a ceremony held in conjunction with the 2004 International Astronautical Congress in Vancouver, Canada on 4 October 2004.
  • Chief Scientist's Message: Scientists speak with GLOBE Egypt 15 Jul 2004
    Today was a first for me and I think for GLOBE — several of us in the U.S. (Jack Fishman, the GLOBE Surface Ozone PI from NASA Langley, Eron Brennan, Supervisor, Multimedia Services at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, and I) were able to attend — remotely — the opening ceremonies of a GLOBE gathering in Cairo, Egypt via video conference. The students from several schools made presentations on their research topics, sang songs, and performed plays — each with a message about GLOBE and the environment.
  • Liechtenstein Joins GLOBE! 29 Apr 2003
    GLOBE Program welcomes Liechtenstein as the Program's 102 GLOBE country. Guido Wolfinger, the Director of the Liechtenstein Office of Education, and Jack M. Zetkulic, Deputy Chief of Mission for the United States Embassy in Bern, signed the GLOBE agreement in Vaduz on 26 March 2003.
  • A Model of Teamwork: Learning Expedition in Estonia 24 Oct 2001
    Outgoing US Ambassador Melissa Wells has been so impressed with the GLOBE Program in Estonia that she chose the GLOBE Learning Expedition closing ceremony as her last official function in Estonia.
  • Koninklijk Antheneum, Tienen, Belgium 17 Oct 1997
    In January 1996, the school was visited by the United States Ambassador to Belgium, Alan J. Blinken. Ambassador Blinken went to Koninklijk Atheneum and was impressed with the students exceptional efforts and motivation. The students have constructed their own weather station at the school, and from there they diligently monitor atmospheric temperatures, take preciptation measurements, and make cloud observations.
  • U.S. Embassy Hosts Irish GLOBE Students 19 Apr 1996
    The U.S. Ambassador to Ireland, the Honorable Jean Kennedy-Smith, has issued a special invitation to GLOBE schools from throughout Ireland to spend Earth Day, April 22, 1996, at the Embassy in Dublin.
