On
February 23, 1934, Roger Touhy and two of his associates
were convicted in the State Court at Chicago, Illinois
and sentenced to serve ninety-nine years for kidnaping
and the holding for ransom of John A. Jake the
Barber. Touhy was sent to Stateville Penitentiary
at Joliet, Illinois. Touhy and seven other prisoners
escaped from the prison on October 9, 1942. He
was captured in Chicago on December 29, 1942 and
was sentenced to 199 years in aiding the escape
of other prisoners. Touhy was paroled on November
24, 1959. He made allegations of injuries against
the FBI, but X-rays showed only arthritic conditions.
On December 16, 1959, Touhy and a retired sergeant
of the Chicago Police Department were shot as they
were ascending stairs in Chicago, Illinois. Touhy
died of his wounds. |
