About the RCSP Program

RCSP grant projects design and deliver peer-to-peer recovery support services to help individuals in their communities initiate and sustain recovery and gain overall wellness.

Peer support services are not treatment or post-treatment services provided by professionals, but rather support services from people who share the experiences of addiction and recovery.

They are designed to promote a sense of self-worth, community connectedness, and quality of life—all important factors in sustaining recovery from alcohol and drug use disorders.

RCSP grant projects focus on helping individuals and improving the quality of life in communities. They are tailored to local needs identified by community members.

Many types of peer services are offered by RCSP projects, including:

  • Peer-led recovery support groups and meetings
  • Recovery coaching or mentoring
  • Peer case management, information, and referral
  • Recovery learning circles and other forms of recovery-related adult education
  • Coaching or training in:
    • Life skills
    • Health and wellness
    • Education and career planning
    • Leadership skills development
  • Alcohol- and drug-free social and recreational activities.
