Summary Statement and JIT Actions for Fellowship Applicants

To NIGMS Fellowship applicants:

According to NIH policy, you should retrieve your summary statement through the NIH Commons. The summary statement has been prepared by the scientific review administrator of the initial review group (IRG) that evaluated your fellowship application. The actions that may be recommended by an IRG are underlined. You should also consult another document (Actions on NIGMS Fellowship Applications after Initial Review) which explains the actions that are necessary now that the initial merit review is complete. Consult this information to ascertain which set(s) of actions pertains to your application. If your application received a rating that makes it unlikely for funding, be assured that this will in no way prejudice the independent consideration of any applications (revised or new) that you may submit in the future. The appeal process is also described.

REMINDER for Required, Countersigned Information for applications that received a priority score between 100 and 300:

Responsible Conduct of Research
If your application did not contain a section addressing Responsible Conduct of Research, consult the program announcement and provide the requested training plan. If you are awarded a fellowship, you must indicate in the annual progress report when the required training on the Responsible Conduct of Research has been completed. If training is completed in the final year of the fellowship, fellows should notify their NIGMS program director (by e-mail, FAX, or mail) that this requirement has been satisfied.

Other Information
In addition, if your research involves vertebrate animals or human subjects, you must submit information as described in the above referenced Actions on NIGMS Fellowship Applications after Initial Review sheet for instructions on completing this information.

This notice is not intended to imply anything about the ultimate funding status of your application.

If you have questions about the peer review process or concerns about the scientific review of your application, you are encouraged to discuss them with your program director. For information about the business aspects of your application, you may contact your grants management specialist. Telephone numbers and email addresses for each are provided in the "Contacts" section of your application’s Commons account.
