Edmund Rucker

Dr. Edmund Rucker joined our laboratory in 1996 to explore the role of the bcl-x gene in mammary gland development and remodelling through a mammary specific deletion of the gene in the mouse. Ed targeted the mouse bcl-x gene with loxP sites, which permitted him to inactivate it in different cell types. As part of this project he generated a Bcl-x hypomorph, which led to the discovery that Bcl-x is critical for male and female germ cell survival. Ed also dicovered that Bax is the counterpart to Bcl-x in germ cells.

Ed left in February 2000 to take on a faculty position at the University of Missouri. Rucker lab
