You’ve heard the phrase “as simple as ABC,” but if you have Diabetes, there are different ABC’s that can improve your life.

Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you Healthy Moments from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

In the diabetes ABC’s, A stands for A1C and it measures your average glucose level over the past three months. B stands for blood pressure. High blood pressure makes your heart work too hard. C stands for cholesterol. Bad cholesterol builds up and clogs your arteries.

Knowing your ABC’s and talking to your health care team about how to manage them will help lower your chances of having a heart attack, a stroke, or other diabetes-related problems.
