As kids go back to school, those with diabetes face unique challenges – along with their parents, health care providers, and school staff. But, with the right resources – all can succeed.

Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers bringing you Healthy Moments from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

Our National Diabetes Education Program offers a free guide to help schools and parents provide a safe learning environment and equal opportunity for students with diabetes. This guide includes:

  • Comprehensive diabetes information.
  • Sample diabetes and emergency action plans.
  • And a review of schools’ responsibilities under federal laws.
