Independent Investigators/Mentors : NIDDK

Independent Investigators/Mentors

By this stage of your career, you probably have R01, U01 (definition), R21, R03, or other NIH support. Some additional mechanisms that might be of interest are:

  • F33 – Senior Postdoctoral Fellowships: These provide limited sabbatical support. NRSA policy prohibits receiving salary support from an NIH grant while receiving a stipend from an F33.
  • K24 – for Mid-career Investigators engaged in patient-oriented research.
  • R25 – for developing a course, curriculum, yearly symposium, etc. intended to attract students to areas of research supported by NIDDK
