The two most popular grant types at NIDDK are the R01 and the R21. The number of R01 awards (below) has remained constant as the number of applications has increased by about 30%. The number of R21 applications (above) has increased by more than 6-fold since FY2002, compared to a doubling in R21 awards (below).
