Postdoctoral Training Opportunity
Molecular Genetics: The Intramural Research Program (IRP), National Institute on Aging (NIA), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is recruiting for a postdoctoral fellow with a background in molecular genetics to work in the Laboratory of Genetics (LG), Human Genetics Section (HGS), in Baltimore, MD. The candidate will conduct studies of the determination of skin appendage formation in vitro, based on signaling pathways operating with the EDA (ectodysplasin) TNF-ligand (Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 103:9142-7; Cell Cycle. 5:2477-83). The aims of the studies include the understanding of how hair follicles and sweat glands form as a model system for both development and possible regeneration. Approaches will include histology, keratinocyte cell differentiation, and immunocytochemistry, as well as a range of genomic and physiological techniques.
The successful individual will possess an M.D. or Ph.D. degree in biochemistry, molecular genetics, or a related field; have research experience in human or mouse development or biology of the skin and its appendages; and have no more than five years of postdoctoral experience. The NIA IRP offers an outstanding training environment. Salary is commensurate with experience and accomplishments. Additional information regarding the NIA/IRP is available at the following Web site, http://www.grc.nia.nih.gov.
