The National Institute on Aging (NIA), Intramural Research Program (IRP), Clinical Research Branch (CRB) is a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The CRB, located in Baltimore's Harbor Hospital, is dedicated to research in areas including, but not limited to, longitudinal studies and interventional trials with a focus on epidemiology, cardiology, neurology, rheumatology, immunology, endocrinology, hematology and oncology in the context of aging. We are currently soliciting applications for two open Staff Clinician positions. A Staff Clinician is a physician who spends a majority of his/her time providing critical patient care services to participants in research projects and developing and conducting clinical research protocols.
Staff Clinician; Longitudinal Studies Section: This position provides the opportunity for a qualified individual to participate in a well-established program aimed at connecting the most recent discoveries on aging in the areas of genetics, cell biology, metabolism and movement physiology, to the information collected in longitudinal studies, such as the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging (BLSA) and a number of other NIA-funded epidemiological surveys. Qualifications: candidates must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. and must be board certified in Internal Medicine and board eligible or certified in geriatric medicine or other medical subspecialty. Previous experience in clinical research with a publication record in peer-reviewed journals will be considered highly.
Staff Clinician-Cardiologist; with joint appointment in the Laboratory of Cardiovascular Science (LCS): This position provides the opportunity for a qualified individual to conceptualize and implement original clinical research protocols in cardiovascular medicine. The specific duties are to: 1) direct longitudinal cardiovascular studies (of age, disease, lifestyle and genetics) that are focused upon both the BLSA and a related large Founder cohort, the SardiNIA study; and, 2) conceptualize and direct research studies aimed at translating into clinical practice discoveries made within the basic research domain of the LCS or gleaned in the aforementioned human cohorts. Qualifications: candidates must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. and must be board certified in Internal Medicine and board eligible or certified in cardiovascular disease. Additionally, experience in clinical research, epidemiology or genetics is desirable.
Salary is commensurate with clinical and/or research experience and accomplishments. A full Civil Service package of benefits (including retirement, health, life and long term care insurance, Thrift Savings Plan, etc.) is available.
