SSH (Secure Shell)

SSH provides secure communication between two computers. An ssh connection is required to connect from a desktop computer to Helix or Biowulf.

There are several secure options for transferring files to and from Helix and Biowulf.

Web Browsers

Various web browsers are available via X-Windows, such as mozilla, netscape, and firefox.

Lynx

Lynx is a WWW browser that does not require a graphics terminal -- it will display web pages as text on any vt100 type terminal.

wget

GNU wget is a utility for non-interactive download of files from the Web. It supports HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP protocols, as well as retrieval through HTTP proxies.
