The Center for Law and Social Policy (CLASP) is a national nonprofit that works to improve the lives of low-income people. CLASP’s mission is to improve the economic security, educational and workforce prospects, and family stability of low-income parents, children, and youth and to secure equal justice for all.
To carry out this mission, CLASP conducts cutting-edge research, provides insightful policy analysis, advocates at the federal and state levels, and offers information and technical assistance on a range of family policy and equal justice issues for our audience of federal, state, and local policymakers; advocates; researchers; and the media.
Specifically, CLASP works to accomplish the following goals:
- Increase access for low-income adults to quality education, training, transitional jobs, and other employment-preparation activites that will lead to stable, well-paid jobs with benefits.
- Create universal opportunities for children to participate in early education and pre-kindergarten programs in order to increase their school readiness.
- Increase access for low-wage workers to work supports, such as child care, food stamps, Medicaid, cash assistance, child support and medical support, through changes in the human services and workforce development systems.
- Promote child well-being by helping more children grow up with both their parents involved and by providing comprehensive services to parents in need.
- Help young people avoid adverse risk-taking behaviors, including becoming teen parents, and help them obtain high school diplomas and postsecondary degrees.
