Governor Martin O'Malley of Maryland
Governor O’Malley was raised in Montgomery County, Maryland, and graduated from Catholic University and the University of Maryland School of Law. In 1986 he served as state field director for Barbara Mikulski’s successful primary and general U.S. Senate campaigns. He was a prosecutor for the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office from 1988 to 1990 and was elected to the first of two terms on the Baltimore City Council in 1991, representing the city’s Third District. O’Malley was elected mayor of Baltimore in 1999 and re-elected in 2004. He has served as chair of the International Task Force for the National League of Cities and an advisory board member for the U.S. Conference of Mayors, as well as a member of the board of directors for the Baltimore Metropolitan Council.
