Review of Wisconsin Physicians Service Insurance Corporation High-Dollar Payments for Medicare Part B Claims Processed by Wheatlands Administrative Services, Inc., for the Period January 1, 2003, Through December 31, 2005

Executive Summary

During calendar years 2003 through 2005, Wheatlands Administrative Services, Inc. (Wheatlands), overpaid Medicare providers $106,000 for 13 high-dollar ($10,000 or more) Part B claims. Providers refunded 6 overpayments totaling $54,000 before we started fieldwork, and 7 overpayments totaling $52,000 remained outstanding. We issued our report to Wisconsin Physicians Service Insurance Corporation (WPS) because it assumed responsibility as the Medicare Part B carrier for these providers in 2008. WPS agreed with our recommendations.
