Job Description
Microbiologists at the NIH perform a full-range of research experiments and have responsibilities in support of the laboratory. They work to plan and develop experiments and protocols using experience and judgment to modify methods and procedures, identify problems and deficiencies and take corrective action, evaluate new or unfamiliar methods or protocols, determine the time and resources required to perform experiments, and participate in the establishment of plans and schedules. Microbiologists critically analyze and evaluate results for accuracy and success in meeting the goals of the experiments, while training others on the methods, procedures and equipment used in the laboratory and oversee the work of students or others that are less experienced.
