Job Description
The Technical Information Specialist at the NIH carries out advanced technical informational responsibilities such as: indexing specialized scientific and technical materials; determining, choosing, and controlling applicable vocabulary; preparing regular and unique reports and other materials; determining how information will be filed, managed, and marketed; and choosing how best to use automation strategies to accomplish the work and evaluating the effectiveness of those strategies. These staff members may participate with other technical information specialists, professional librarians, systems analysts, computer specialists and support personnel in planning, designing, testing, implementing and evaluating computer applications and related technology for application to library processing; apply knowledge of library operating procedures, online files and processing procedures, and systems analysis techniques to the solution of technical processing problems, to improve operating efficiency or to provide better management information; and they may monitor regular file activities, routine updates and batch processes to meet production schedules.
