As the nation transitions from one administration to the next, the U.S. Department of Education's monthly TV show, "Education News Parents Can Use," takes a look back at some of the most engaging topics explored on shows from the recent past.

In a program airing from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. EST Tuesday, Jan. 20 on the Dish Network, as well as dozens of PBS stations and numerous cable outlets, viewers will hear tips on helping prepare children to succeed in the global economy. They will see how innovative schools and their communities are getting preschool children ready to learn. The show also will spotlight ways to integrate service into learning and suggest how healthy students can learn and achieve more. Effective foreign language instruction and ways to recruit and reward quality teachers will be covered.

In addition to the viewing options above, many more stations will broadcast the program on a tape-delayed basis. A complete listing is available at www.ed.gov/edtv. Special video segments will showcase successful school reform efforts in Kalkaska, Mich., Sedalia, Mo., Appleton, Wis., and Dearborn, Mich. Appearing live on the program will be the Education Department's Washington-based Teaching Ambassador Fellows—five teacher leaders who are spending a year at the Department of Education, contributing their first-hand knowledge and experience to the development of effective federal education policy.
