Function: Establishes AWIPS data requirements for National Weather
Service (NWS), Weather Forecast Offices (WFO) and River Forecast Centers
(RFC) in support of NWS service goals. NOAAPORT Program Manager works closely
with the Program Leaders in the Office of Climate, Water, and Weather Service
(OCWWS), Regional Headquaters and field offices, Office of Science and Technology
(OST), National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), National Environmental
Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS), NOAA Laboratories, and
the external community to:
- Define requirements and priorities for new operational mission essential
data needed to meet NWS Strategic Plan goals and objectives
- Coordinate
and validate the timely implementation of new data into the AWIPS user
interface
Major NOAAPORT Program Leader activities are to:
- Maintain AWIPS A-Specfication Appendix K data requirement tables,
especially gridded data requirements
- Establish functional requirements for dissemination, storage, and
display of new data (e.g., AWIPS Requirements White Papers (RWP)), including
data latency, availability, and service backup requirements
- Support, coordinate, prioritize new AWIPS data initiatives advocated
by Program Leaders, including Radar, Satellite, Interactive Forecast
Preparation (IFP) Programs
- Participate in the science, data, and software
configuration management process to support rapid implementation of
new data into AWIPS
