Background information (text on screen):
NOAA constructs barrier islands to protect Louisiana's shoreline and
infrastructure. Despite Hurricane Katrina delays, NOAA is on schedule to complete the first phase of an 800-acre barrier island project in Plaquemines Parish, La. Dredging and major earthmoving activities are currently in progress on the Barataria Barrier Island Complex Project, which will create beach and march habitat to help protect Louisiana's coastal communities and infrastructure from the devastating effects of wind, waves and flooding. The project is being implemented in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources.
