Demolition has begun on Wildcat Stadium to make way for a new, state-of-the-art facility that is scheduled to be completed before the start of the 2009 football season. The old 7,500 seat facility will be replaced by a 10,000 seat stadium.      Columbus, GA-Coaches, school administrators, and football players representing Fort Valley State and Albany State University were present at the annual Fountain City Classic News Conference and Media Coaches Luncheon. Fountain City Classic Inc. Chairman, State Representative Calvin Smyre, served as the master of ceremony. “It makes great business sense to bring this gathering and game to Columbus; there are a lot of alumni located in and around Columbus and they are loyal football fans. With the proceeds going to both schools, more funds can be generated from a larger crowd in attendance at a larger facility,” stated Smyre. “It’s a win-win situation for the City of Columbus and both Universities. Hotels and restaurants are full and people are having a great weekend.”
