U.S. Transportation Secretary Mineta Announces $9.5
Million Grant to Spokane International Airport
SPOKANE,
WA - U. S. Secretary of Transportation Norman Y. Mineta today announced a $9.5
million grant for Spokane International Airport.
The grant will be used for building modifications, enhancements, and new
construction at Spokane International Airport in support of passenger safety and
baggage security. The buildings
will house new Transportation Security Administration screening equipment.
Jennifer Dorn, administrator of the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal
Transit Administration, represented the Secretary in presenting the check to
local area airport officials, alongside U.S. Rep. George R. Nethercutt,
Jr.
"President Bush and I remain dedicated to building a safe, secure and
reliable transportation system that operates efficiently, strengthens the
economy and improves our quality of life," Secretary Mineta said.
"Safety and security are the Bush administration's top
transportation priorities. This project is essential for Spokane International Airport
to help ensure safety for passengers and for secure and efficient handling of
present and future baggage demands."
"These funds represent the strong commitment by the federal government to
help ensure the safe and secure travel of the flying public," said Rep.
Nethercutt.
The grant comes from the Airport Improvement Program of the U.S. Department of
Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration.
