Transportation Secretary Mineta Announces $1.5 Million for Arnold Palmer
Regional Airport
U.S.
Secretary of Transportation Norman Y. Mineta today announced a grant of $1.5
million to enhance safety at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe, PA.
"President
Bush and I remain dedicated to building a safe, secure and reliable
transportation system that operates efficiently, strengthens the economy and
improves our quality of life," Secretary Mineta said.
"Safety is the Bush administration's top transportation priority,
and protecting and improving our transportation infrastructure is of central
importance to all Americans. This
grant will help Arnold Palmer Regional Airport maintain the highest levels of
safety for the traveling public of southwest Pennsylvania in the years
ahead."
"I
am pleased the Department of Transportation has released this important funding
to enhance safety at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport," said Sen. Arlen
Specter. "The residents of Westmoreland and surrounding counties rely upon
this airport to maintain access to other parts of the state and country. This
funding is going to greatly assist the airport's ability to offer safe and
reliable air travel to the local community."
The
funds will be used to construct a taxiway and improve the safety area of one of
the airport's runways.
The
grant comes from the Airport Improvement Program of the U.S. Department of
Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration.
