Working With Teachers

Supporting teachers in the classroom is paramount to student success. Each year, Sandia and Lockheed Martin sponsor the Excellence in Science Teaching Awards and the Pi Awards recognizing outstanding math teachers. These awards recognize teachers from the area high schools for science and math teaching excellence. Teachers enjoy recognition at the awards banquet and receive a cash award for their classrooms. Sandia provides professional development opportunities for science teachers.

Sandia National Laboratories and Lockheed Martin are partners in the APS Join-a-School Creative Grants. This is one way we can help teachers in APS Classrooms. We do this through the yearly competitive grant process that funds creative efforts in classrooms with $500 and $1000 grants. Any teacher in an APS School can apply for this funding and the grants are distributed each April. We support efforts that promote science, technology, engineering and math in schools. The Seeds of Learning Grants are available on a monthly basis for smaller classroom projects, $250 or less.
