Legislation and Regulation
Currently, most state and federal regulations are based on adults and only within the last few years have new Federal and state laws been passed to take into account the fact that children are more sensitive than adults to environmental contaminants. The National Conference of State Legislators' Children's Environmental Health Legislation database includes state legislation on topics such as asthma, mercury, lead poisoning, pesticides, mold and indoor air quality. Other sites have legislative information related to such school-specific topics as recycling, environmentally preferred purchasing, facility design and construction, and diesel bus emissions.
