F31 -- NRSA for Individual Predoctoral Fellowships to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research -- provides individual fellowships to predoctoral trainees from underrepresented groups. Duration up to five years, not renewable.

F32 -- NRSA for Individual Postdoctoral Fellows -- provides individual fellowships to postdoctoral trainees. Duration up to three years, not renewable.

K01 -- Mentored Research Scientist Award -- supports clinicians and Ph.D.s exclusively in epidemiology, modeling, and outcomes research. Duration of three to five years, not renewable.

K22 -- Research Scholar Development Award -- provides start-up support for postdocs making the transition to assistant professors at an academic institution. Two-year duration, not renewable.

K99/R00 -- NIH Pathway to Independence Award -- NIAID supports salary and research expenses for one year in the mentored K99 phase. The R00 phase provides two years of support to continue the research project independently. NIAID makes very few awards, not renewable.

K02 -- Independent Scientist Award -- supports more established investigators who have independent support and show a need for an intensive research focus in any field of NIAID's mission. Duration of three to five years, not renewable.

F33 -- NRSA for Individual Senior Fellows -- provides opportunities for established scientists to make major changes in the direction of their research careers, broaden their scientific background, or acquire new research capabilities. Generally used by associate professors for support during sabbaticals. Duration up to two years, not renewable.

T32 -- NRSA Institutional Research Training Grants -- funds academic institutions for training predoctoral and postdoctoral candidates in areas within NIAID’s scientific mission. Senior investigators who head research or training programs at an institution generally apply for these grants. Five-year duration, renewable.

Research Supplements to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research -- support scientists who are members of an underrepresented group at the following levels: high school, undergraduate, medical, graduate, postdoctoral, and junior faculty. The principal investigator of a “parent” grant applies.
