The Housing Programs of USDA Rural Development works to improve the quality of
life for rural Americans by ensuring that they have access to safe, well-built,
affordable homes. Homeownership builds economic
stability and, over the long term, creates equity to finance education, business
startups and retirement. People with equity in their homes not only take greater
pride in them, they also become more involved in their communities.
Housing activity also benefits the
larger economy as wages are earned and spent by those directly involved in
housing development. Housing Programs has played a significant role in the
National Partnership for Homeownership to help more women and minorities achieve
their homeownership goals.
USDA Rural Development
Community Facilities Program helps rural communities build or expand vital community facilities, such as
assisted living facilities, libraries, police and fire stations, daycare centers and town halls, to name a few. USDA
Rural Development provides direct and guaranteed loans as well as grants to help
communities acquire needed community facilities, which not only
improve the basic quality of life, but also increase the competitiveness of
rural communities in attracting and retaining businesses.
