Purpose To allow ICs
to select one or two research projects for funding from a multiproject (P
series, U19,
or U54) application even though the parent grant did not fare well
enough in initial
peer review to warrant an award.
Procedure
NIH policy permits separating a research project from a multiproject
parent application so the single project can be funded. However, it is
done rarely for two principal reasons: 1) NIAID must use approaches in
sync with NIH policy, and 2) NIAID may be audited for disaggregation
use.
Applicants
- For a better approach than having your application disaggregated
from a multiproject grant, simultaneously submit an R01 if
applying as part of a P01.
- If, after review, both the multiproject application and the R01
application are in the fundable range, you must relinquish the R01.
You will not have the option to withdraw from the multiproject grant.
Program and Grants Staff
Division of Extramural Activities Director
- Approve or disapprove requests to disaggregate multiproject applications
to component R01 grants (or other appropriate grant type) for programmatic
reasons.
- Inform Grants
