Denise Decker, who manages 2008 Farm Bill public comments for the NRCS Programs Deputy Area, was sworn in to the District of Columbia Commission on Persons with Disabilities (previously the Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities) on August 13, 2008.  The commission, which meets monthly, is composed of individuals with and without disabilities who provide the mayor, city council, and employees of the District of Columbia with information on issues related to citizens with disabilities.  The commission was instrumental in establishing the new Office of Disability Rights that will work more closely with district residents with disabilities on such issues as accessibility, employment, and advice on the needs of D.C. citizens with disabilities.  Her appointment to the commission was the culmination of several years of serving as a volunteer testifying before the District of Columbia city council on the need for a new office of disability rights.

Denise also has experience internationally as a disability trainer in Brazil and other parts of Latin America that helped qualify her for a seat on the commission.
Denise has been with NRCS for 19 years serving in the East Region and NHQ.
