Oil company makes amends for Wyoming spill
1/8 -- Houston-based Citation Oil and Gas will pay $860,000 in penalties and spill prevention measures as a result of a 2004 oil spill to the North Fork Powder River in Wyoming. The company will also take steps to ensure compliance with spill prevention and control requirements under the Clean Water Act. Press release.

Fine particle pollution gets attention in parts of Utah, Montana
12/22 -- Areas along Utah's Wasatch Front and Libby, Mont. have been designated as “nonattainment” areas under EPA's new fine particulate standard (or PM 2.5). Community Action for a Renewed Environment grants

2008 a record year for environmental enforcement

Water treatment plant to help restore water quality and trout fishery
11/19 -- The Town of Breckenridge and Summit County, Colo., have begun operating a state-of-the-art treatment plant at the Wellington Oro Mine site in French Gulch. The plant will remove zinc and cadmium from an abandoned mine seep that is the biggest source of pollution in the Upper Blue River, improving water quality and aquatic habitat for six miles downstream.
