Special Highlights

HouseThis year, the CDC celebrates its 20th anniversary in Cote d'Ivoire. In 1988, CDC and the Cote d’Ivoire Ministry of Health established a field station in Abidjan and over the next 16 years expanded the Retrovirus Cote d'Ivoire (CDC Retro-CI) project to tackle some of the most important questions about HIV worldwide, while strengthening the overall health system and workforce. With the introduction of the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) in 2005, the initial agreement to conduct epidemiological research on HIV has grown to support the expansion of HIV prevention, care, and treatment in Cote d'Ivoire. Recognizing the rapid expansion of HIV/AIDS programs worldwide, the focus of this year’s meeting was building the capacity of local prevention, treatment, and care programs; enhancing quality; and promoting coordination among partners.
