A-PThis species is distributed mainly in the tropical and temperate waters of the Atlantic. It is the most tropical of all Atlantic billfishes and probable more abundant in the western than in the eastern Atlantic, judging from the hook rates attained by commercial fisheries in both areas. Its latitudinal range, based on data from the commercial longline fishery, extends from about 40° to 45°N in the North Atlantic to 40°S in the western South Atlantic, 30°S in the central South Atlantic, and 35°S in the eastern South Atlantic.
