National Interagency Prescribed Fire Training Center

Field Coordinator & Instructor Opportunity

Field Coordinator Detail Opportunity

There is a need for detailers to work with the Center for a 25-day period. The detailer will serve as Field Coordinator handling coordination between the attendees, PFTC, and the various agencies that will host the prescribed burns. The Field Coordinator will be with a group of six individuals day and night for most of their stay. The Field Coordinator must be able to answer questions on technical aspects of prescribed burning. Due to these circumstances, prescribed fire experience is required (Southeastern desirable), and is qualified as RXBII. Both office and fieldwork will be required.

Applications from disciplines other than fire management are strongly encouraged. Individuals will remain at their current grade. A government credit card is not necessary to be considered for this detail.

Instructor Opportunities at PFTC

Instructors are selected based on their experience as fire professionals and their ability to deliver quality instruction in their subject area. Our roster of instructors includes practitioners in southeastern fuels, prescribed fire safety, driving safety, prescribed fire techniques, air quality and smoke management, burn plans and wildland fire use, prescribed fire monitoring, fire ecology research, and national perspectives on wildland fire. The PFTC regularly recruit new presenters and instructors in order to keep up with changing fire policies and new knowledge. If you have experience and expert knowledge in one of these subject areas and you have an interest in serving the Center as an instructor please contact Jim Durrwachter, PFTC Director.
