New Regulations for Waldo Lake
Waldo
Lake is one of the largest natural lakes in Oregon. It offers
a uniquely peaceful setting on the water and along remote shorelines. |
This year we are asking visitors to plan ahead and prepare for
new regulations that will take effect in July 2009.
What are the new rules?
Beginning July 20, 2009:
- Electric boat motors only. Boat motor use on Waldo Lake will
be restricted
to electric motors.
- Generator and chainsaw use will be prohibited in
undeveloped areas around Waldo Lake. Generator use will be allowed
in developed campgrounds.
- Floatplanes will be prohibited from using the surface of Waldo
Lake.
Now is a great time to get used to doing things the new way so
that you are ready for next year.
Background about the new regulations A decision
to manage motorized recreation activities on Waldo Lake and
its undeveloped
shoreline
was made
by the Forest
Supervisor
on April 16 2007, and affirmed by the Regional Forester on
July 20, 2007.
A two-year transition period began on July 20, 2007.
The transition period includes posting information and educating
visitors at Waldo Lake about the management change and to
give time for visitors and managers to make adjustments to lake
and
lakeshore access.
