The Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory

A center of excellence in ecosystem science since 1969.

NREL Director Dr. John Moore

Welcome to the Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory. From our beginnings as a grasslands lab to the world class ecosystem research institute we are today, the laboratory's mission “to develop a better understanding of the natural world and how we as members of that system interact within it” remains unchanged.

This true interdisciplinary approach has enabled our researchers to penetrate the complexities of ecosystems by linking the dynamics of soil, plant and animal life, and the atmosphere. Only through a clear understanding of how these elements are interrelated will we be able to devise management strategies that will ensure the long-term viability of our earth.

NREL Fall 2008 Seminar Series Presents:

“SCALING UP, ACROSS, AND OVER TIME IN ECOLOGY”
fall seminar series schedule

Multiscale PictureThe NREL Fall 2008 Seminar Series will be hosted by Dr. Tom Stohlgren and his research team, with several guest presenters being featured throughout the semester. General concepts include scaling biological data across spatial and temporal scales, and scaling information delivery from scientists to the public. We’ll discuss a wide variety of native and invasive organisms, modeling techniques, web-based technologies, and research programs designed to get us all to “Think BIG.”
