VAL PLISKO

DIRECTOR, DIVISION OF ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION PLANNING AND EVALUATION SERVICE

As the Division Director for the Elementary and Secondary Education Division, Ms. Plisko is responsible for overseeing evaluations of elementary and secondary education programs and supporting special initiatives and new policy directions. Her federal service began in 1975 at the National Center for Education Statistics, where she prepared the Condition of Education,an annual report to Congress.

At the Planning and Evaluation Service, she has been responsible for completion of Congressionally mandated reports on Title I and other elementary/secondary programs, and most recently, the development of performance indicators for strategic planning. She has established the office as an authoritative source for analysis and information to respond to the immediate needs of the Secretary and senior officials.

She received her B.A. in Sociology with Highest Distinction from the University of Virginia, graduated Phi Beta Kappa, and earned her M.A. in Sociology from George Washington University. She lives in Vienna, Virginia with her husband and 15-year-old daughter and enjoys gardening and renovating a farmette in the Shenandoah Valley.
